Jebel Kotein FC crowned champions of South Sudan Cup in Kapoeta

Jebel Kotein Football Club has been crowned winners of the South Sudan Cup tournament in Kapoeta of Eastern Equatoria State after beating St. Mary FC 3-nil on Sunday.

This is the second year in a row Jebel Kotein FC has taken the cup.

The league, organized by the Kapoeta Local Football Association or KLFA started on March 10th with 10 teams battling it out for the cup.

Ika Bure, the captain of Jebel Kotein FC, expresses joy for the win and vows to represent Kapoeta local football association in Juba when the competition begins

“We as a team we feel very happy, we feel excited because we won this tournament, we also won last year. It is great that we will represent Kapoeta. We will be going to Juba and we will like to perform as we did in today’s game and last year's game," he said.

Meanwhile, St Mary FC striker Richardson Loreem congratulated his opponents for the win and said the game was fair.

“I appreciate that we played the match, we tried our best. In a game, there is always a winner, a loser, or a draw. I thank everyone who attended the tournament. Congratulations to Jebel Kotein, the winners, I appreciate the referees, the officials, and the organizers," Loreem added.

KLFA secretary-general Faruk Lino Lohai appreciated the teams that took part in the tournament and called on the government to support sports for school-going children.

“I want to ask the mayor that we have a lot of competitions including underage and girls so I want you to promote these people to participate in activities during the time schools are closed due to corona,” he stressed.

The Mayor of Kapoeta Municipality, who was the guest of honor during the finals, Elia Lokuda Lonyia used the opportunity to announce plans to launch a girls' tournament.
